Gamma heatmap guide

How to read an options gamma heatmap without overcomplicating it

A gamma heatmap turns option-chain exposure into a visual map by strike and expiration. The goal is not to predict every tick. The goal is to identify where positioning may matter before price arrives there.

Rows

Rows represent strike prices, usually centered around the current spot price.

Columns

Columns represent expirations, so traders can separate 0DTE from weekly or monthly structure.

Color

Color intensity helps highlight where positive or negative net gamma is concentrated.

Common mistakes

Do not treat a heatmap level as a guaranteed reversal. GEX is a positioning framework. News, macro data, liquidity, volatility, and large flows can override a static level. The best use is preparation: know the zones before the market tests them.
